Podcasts Whilst You Paint
The last few weeks have been intense with the launch of my online print store and the start of Ramadan. I’ve been working longer hours than usual, and now without my morning caffeine boost (green tea, not coffee. I’m too weak for a morning latte.)
Cue my latest coping mechanism.
Podcasts.
I typically always play something in the background whilst I work. Sometimes it’s a track, a Youtube video or some type of talk. Sometimes it’s a random stream of chillhop I’ve found on Soundcloud just to fill in the silent void.
It’s become a habit now, almost a necessity – otherwise, my mind fills itself with the most peculiar observations, every thought under the sun decides to meet and have a picnic at my expense, and I refuse to entertain it.
Recently however, it’s been podcasts. The first one I ever really listened to was the famous ‘Serial’, a true crime podcast which is utterly intriguing and haunting all at once – but I also know my personal limit; how these things haunt me for weeks and then I can’t stop thinking about it. So for the greater benefit, I quit listening to ‘Serial’ and that was that.
Months later, I discovered podcasts which are more in line with my work. One of these is Matt D’Avella’s ‘The Ground Up Show‘, where he interviews creative professionals across the board and discusses their background, growth and creative process (if you follow me on my Instagram, you’ll have seen me recommend this earlier in the week).
I also briefly listened to ‘The Founder Hour‘, described as ‘raw conversations with the humans behind LA’s hottest startups and businesses’, and found it fascinating. As you can tell, I’m intrigued by people’s stories, especially in creative industries.
Lastly, I discovered ‘At Home With‘, a casual peek inside the ways of the beauty industry’s top names; I’ve always had a soft spot for the beauty industry and this offers a fascinating insight into – again – personal growth and the people behind the business.
As particular as I am with my taste in podcasts, I’m quite pleased with this small but curated selection – but who knows what else I’ll discover? The podcast scene is currently growing at a rapid rate, and I’m all for it.
