Completed Piece: ‘Çiçek’
‘Çiçek’, my first digital piece.
I initially started this on a whim, testing out the new tablet and using it to play with the symmetry tool on the ‘Sketchbook’ Android app (which, by the way, is fascinating. You’ll know what I mean if you too have been sucked in by those videos of people using Amaziograph on iPad).
You may have seen the previous version of this piece in my last post, where I built the initial roughly-drawn layers and added random motifs to see what I could throw at it. It was purely experimental, a new toy – until a week ago when I decided to be more serious with it and fine tune the details.
The outer sixteen-fold rosette houses within it some traditional Turkish elements, as well as sixteen ‘Naalayn’ (or ‘Blessed Sandal’) daisy-filled motifs and my freehand watercolour-style peonies. It’s no surprise, then, that I’ve decided to name this ‘Çiçek’, the Turkish word for ‘flower’.
Colour choice is always interesting; part joy and part dilemma, really. As always, I found myself going for rich vibrant colours which are almost traditional yet ever-so-slightly not. And as always, it seems I always dream in some shade of blue.
Below I’m pleased to present the completed piece in its true colours, with a close-up of the details beside it. Enjoy!
