Musings #8: Why Aren’t Printers Obsolete Yet..
I was meant to have a post up today, but the one I scheduled needs a bit more work. So, here I am with a general ‘updatey’ type of post instead.
I haven’t picked up a brush in a few days as I’ve been in the midst of planning upcoming projects – the past few days have consisted mostly of notebooks, emails and ordering samples – but I can’t wait to get back to the watercolours.
We also have a new printer. Now, I should explain: I have a terrible history with printers and we’ve been through about six of them in the last three years alone – expensive models, budget ones, wireless or cabled, all-in-ones and ones which claim they’ll even do your laundry (okay, I’m kidding about the last one – send me royalties if you use the idea). They’ve all developed the most tedious issues within months, ranging from suddenly refusing to scan one day to denying there is a full cartridge of ink despite a new one being installed. Hours of troubleshooting, money wasted on new ink cartridges (which, oddly, we still have in the drawer – like a trophy of our battles) and evenings spent actually dusting the machines delicately like some sort of archaeologist – to no avail. And all I’d wanted to do was print a letter to certain institutions which still live in the Stone Age and want me to correspond with them via pigeon. Still, this latest purchase has so far served me well – it actually printed my documents and scanned without any issues (imagine that), except this one is slightly print-happy and kept churning out start-up guides when I was setting it up yesterday. Ended up with roughly fifteen information sheets about wireless setup. Anyway, it’s early days yet but I’m willing to give it a chance..
Other than that, we spent a few days in Bath a few weeks ago – a very welcome break after the blizzard and bleak weather. It was lovely; we explored the town centre and Roman Baths, brought four coasters and a bowl we didn’t need from a Turkish ceramics store, and ate spicy chicken wraps at 2am whilst watching Netflix, courtesy of the dream kitchen in our Airbnb. Blissful.
I do actually create art on a regular basis, I promise. I’ll be back with more work before you can accidentally dip your paintbrush into your tea.. See you then!
